Can you sign it this way?

Sending a document for signature by text message

Plenty of the people you need a signature from do not read email. They read texts. Signathing sends the signing link by text message when you enter a mobile number instead of an email address, and the reminders and the finished certified copy follow the same way. It is free, included on every document, and the signature it produces is recognized under the federal ESIGN Act and state UETA laws like any other.

How it works

  • Add the signer with a name and a mobile number. An email address is optional; with both, they get both.
  • They receive a text naming you and the document, with a link. They open it in the phone's browser.
  • They agree to sign electronically, sign the fields assigned to them, and tap finish.
  • If they go quiet, reminders go out by text. When everyone has signed, the certified PDF link arrives by text too.

When to add an access code

A text goes to a phone, and phones get shared, lost and replaced. For a document with personal details or money in it, add an access code: a short code you tell the signer in person or by a separate call, without which the document does not open. The record then shows the signer had the number and the code.

What the record shows

The number the link was sent to, the time it was opened and signed, the device, the consent step, a fingerprint of the document, a digital seal on the certified copy, and a verification code anyone can check at signathing.com/verify. It is the same record an email signer produces, with the mobile number in place of the address.

Who this is for

Contractors whose customers approve change orders from the driveway. Landlords with tenants who answer texts and ignore email. Gyms and leagues collecting waivers from parents. Anyone whose signer is a person with a phone rather than a desk.

Common questions

Does it cost extra to send by text?
No. Text delivery is included free on every document, including reminders and the certified copy.
Does the signer need an email address at all?
No. A mobile number is enough. Everything, including the finished copy, arrives by text.
Can I send to a landline?
No. The number has to receive text messages. If the signer has no mobile number, use an email address, or sign in person on your own device with Sign here now.
Can they reply to the text?
The text carries a link, not a conversation. If they have a question, they will contact you the way they usually do; your name is on the message.
Is a signature from a text link the same as one from an email link?
Yes. The signing page, the consent step, the certificate and the verification code are identical. Only the delivery differs.
