Can you sign it this way?
Can a waiver be signed on a phone?
Yes. A waiver is a signed acknowledgment, and electronic signatures on it are recognized under the federal ESIGN Act and state UETA laws. The question every coach, gym owner and event organizer asks next is the practical one: how do you get sixty people to sign before Saturday without a clipboard, and what do you have afterward if something happens? Whether a particular waiver limits liability at all is a matter of state law and the wording, so this page is about the signing, not the clause.
Three ways to collect waivers
- A direct link. Save the waiver as a template and post its link on your site, in the sign-up email, or as a QR code at the front desk. Each person opens it, types their name, signs, and gets their own certified copy.
- Bulk send. Paste the roster, up to 100 names with emails or mobile numbers, and each person gets their own copy and link. You see who has signed and who has not.
- In person. Tap Sign here now on your phone or tablet and hand it over. The person signs on your device with you present, and the copy still goes to them.
What the record shows later
The waiver text exactly as it read that day, with a fingerprint of the file. The person's consent to sign electronically. The time they opened it, the time they signed, and the device. A digital seal on the certified PDF, and a verification code beside the signature that anyone can check at signathing.com/verify. If a question comes up a year later, the certified copy is what you produce.
Minors: a parent or guardian signs
A waiver signed by a child is not what you want on file. The templates include a checkbox for a participant under 18 and a line for the minor's name, and the parent or guardian is the signer. Send the link to the parent, or put the tablet in the parent's hands at check-in.
Keeping it findable
Signed waivers live in your account, searchable by name, with the certified PDF attached to each. The person who signed has their own copy too. Nothing to file, nothing in a box in the back office.
Common questions
- Do people need an account to sign a waiver?
- No. They open the link, type their name, sign, and are done. Only you, the sender, have an account.
- Can I put the waiver on a QR code?
- Yes. A template's direct link works anywhere a link works, including a QR code printed at the door.
- Can a parent sign for a child?
- Yes. The templates have a checkbox and a name line for a minor, and the parent or guardian signs. Send the link to the parent.
- Does an electronic waiver limit liability?
- Whether any waiver limits liability depends on state law and the wording, and some states limit what a waiver can do, especially for minors. That is a question for a lawyer in your state. What an electronic signature changes is the quality of the record of who agreed to the wording, and when.
- Is this free for a whole season?
- Yes. Unlimited documents, templates, direct links and bulk send are all free, with no card to start.
General information, not legal advice. Laws change and their application depends on the specific facts. Consult a licensed attorney in your state about your own documents.
