The part that matters is what you are holding afterward
Collecting a signature is the easy half. The half that matters is the record you can produce later, when somebody remembers the agreement differently. Every completed document here produces a certified PDF with the full trail attached.
What the certificate contains
Attached to every completed document, not sold as an upgrade:
- Every signer, with the name and email the document went to
- A timestamp for each action: sent, delivered, opened, signed
- A fingerprint of the exact document that was signed
- The verification code stamped beside each signature
- Any access-code protection or view-only receipt that applied
The verification code is the unusual part
Beside every signature there is a short code. Anyone holding the document can type that code at signathing.com/verify and see who signed, which document, and exactly when. They do not need an account, and they do not need your permission.
That matters because the person who most needs to check a signature is usually not the person who sent it. A bank, a customer, an inspector, a judge. Handing them a document they can independently verify is a different thing from handing them a PDF and asking them to trust it.
The check never exposes the file. It confirms the facts of the signing and nothing more, which is what makes it safe to print the code on the document itself.
The fingerprint stops quiet edits
The certificate records a cryptographic fingerprint of the exact file that was signed. Change one character of that document afterward and the fingerprint no longer matches. It is the difference between a document somebody says was not altered and a document that can demonstrate it.
Common questions
- Can anyone verify a signature, or only me?
- Anyone with the code, at signathing.com/verify, with no account. That is the point of it.
- Does verification show the document itself?
- No, and deliberately not. It shows who signed, what document title, and when. The file stays private.
- How long is the record kept?
- The completed document and its trail stay in your account. Download a copy for your own files as well, the same as you would with anything important.
